A bottling of Scotch Whisky containing spirit distilled at the Laphroaig distillery which has been matured for no less than 10 years in oak casks. The bottling strength of this whisky is 40% which is at the lower end of the scale for whiskies. Although these days many consumers are pushing for producers to bottle closer to 43% or 46% there are still some fine lower strength whiskies.

Nose: Rich, tarry, peaty, medicinal, earthy, a little fruity, wonderfully complex. Palate: Very coherent with the nose, does not dissapoint at all. Finish: Long, rich and peaty. Comment: Out of all the laphroaigs ive tried, and theres been a few, this tops the lot. A superb laphroaig at a great price - less than £50

I really think Laphroaig and Ardbeg are best - for me - when they are freshly opened. Young peat monsters have the most punch and power straight out of the gate. Nose: peat (duh), burning charcoal in a BBQ pit, salted butter, grilled lemons, an interesting floral note. Palate: I get a great sense of charred wood.
