The most recent of the Japanese distilleries, Chichibu was founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto - famous for his work at the now closed Hanyu distillery. The first official release - aptly named Chichibu “The First” - caused quite a stir, and not just for it’s novelty value. Fans of Japanese whisky will be watching developments at Chichibu with interest because the early signs are extremely encouraging.
