After Suntory, the other big name owners of Japanese whisky distilleries are Nikka and Kirin, the latter are owners of the Karuizawa brand. Founded in 1956 the Karuizawa Distillery ceased production in 2001. Despite not having produced any new whisky for over a decade the Karuizawa brand has enjoyed an increase in interest in recent years outside of Japan, thanks to the efforts of Marcin Miller’s Number One Drinks Company who continue to release new Karuizawa expressions. Apart from the excellent whisky it’s also worth noting that the packaging of the ‘Noh’ releases are also rather striking.
