Famous for its peated whisky, Yoichi is one of Japan’s best loved whiskies. Owned by Nikka, who also own the Miyagikyo Distillery, the distillery opened in 1934.
In common with other Japanese whisky brands, Yoichi prices have risen considerably in recent years. At face value peat isn’t the necessarily the first thing one might associate with Japan but it must be noted that Japanese whisky production has been heavily influenced by scotch whisky and many techniques have been borrowed from Scotland.
