At the end of the tour at Highland Park, Dearly Beloved, Manny and I were invited into the tasting room. This 12-year-old Viking Honour was the malt with which the debates were opened. On the nose there is again quite a bit of yellow fruit and honey with a soft dash of smoke, but it smells 'darker' than the 10-year-old, if you know what I mean....

I first tried this whisky at a friends house and I was mesmerized. A big mouth-coating sweetnes with butterscotch and sultanas was tremendous without a drop of water in it. I bought a bottle for myself, partly because I really enjoyed it when I sampled it and partly because it is released exclusively in Sweden and I happen to like Highland park...

Highland Park 18 Year Old

No doubt about it the HP 18 is a great whisky...rich, flavorsome malty and sweet, but after trying the 16 year old I think I actually prefer the younger stable mate. It's slightly smoother with a gossamer texture, lighter and not so thick and treacley... curiously this whisky works better for me either with the 21 yr 47% or the 16 yr 40%.......
